Solution Architect (Fiber)

About the role

The Solution Architect – Fiber & Structured Cabling, AI Data Center is a customer-facing technical role responsible for designing and architecting high-density fiber and structured cabling solutions for large-scale AI data center environments. The role works closely with customers, Solution Specialists, Account Executives, engineering, Professional Services, OEMs, manufacturers, and delivery teams to translate AI infrastructure requirements into scalable, repeatable, and executable physical connectivity designs. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data center fiber infrastructure and understands the unique density, speed, scale, quality, and deployment requirements associated with GPU clusters, high-performance networks, and hyperscale AI environments.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead technical discovery and architecture for fiber and structured cabling solutions supporting AI data center programs.
  • Translate customer compute, network, rack, and deployment requirements into physical layer designs, standards, BOMs, and implementation requirements.
  • Design high-density fiber architectures supporting GPU clusters, Ethernet and InfiniBand fabrics, storage networks, and data center interconnects.
  • Develop rack-to-rack, row, zone, meet-me-room, backbone, horizontal, and cross-connect cabling architectures.
  • Define fiber types, connectorization, polarity, patching, labeling, pathway, containment, and cable management standards.
  • Develop and validate cable matrices, port maps, connectivity schedules, rack elevations, drawings, BOMs, and installation documentation.
  • Partner with OEMs and infrastructure manufacturers to validate interoperability, standards, product selection, and technical roadmaps.
  • Support estimating, proposals, statements of work, RFQs/RFPs, technical presentations, and customer design reviews.
  • Work with Professional Services and field delivery teams to ensure designs are constructible, scalable, testable, and repeatable across large deployments.
  • Support design-to-delivery handoff, installation standards, QA/QC requirements, testing, certification, documentation, and closeout.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize and automate fiber design, documentation, BOM creation, and deployment methodologies.

What you have

  • 5+ years of experience designing fiber, structured cabling, or physical network infrastructure in data center environments.
  • Strong background in one or more AI Data Center connectivity areas, including high-density fiber architectures, GPU cluster connectivity, Ethernet/InfiniBand fabrics, structured cabling, data center interconnect, rack-level connectivity, and large-scale fiber deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber, MPO/MTP and LC connectivity, polarity methods, transceivers/optics, patching architectures, and high-density fiber management.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data centers, hyperscale environments, AI infrastructure, HPC, cloud providers, NCPs, or major colocation/data center operators is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret network designs, rack elevations, port maps, equipment layouts, construction drawings, and customer technical standards.
  • Experience creating or validating BOMs, cable matrices, connectivity schedules, design packages, test requirements, and as-built documentation.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards, installation practices, testing/certification, labeling, pathways, and data center QA/QC processes.
  • Experience working with major networking OEMs, optics providers, fiber manufacturers, and structured cabling partners.
  • Strong customer-facing communication, technical presentation, documentation, and design-review skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across sales, architecture, engineering, Professional Services, project management, operations, field delivery, and partner organizations.
  • Ability to operate in fast-moving environments where designs and deployment requirements evolve rapidly.
  • AI infrastructure and large GPU clusters
  • 400G, 800G, and emerging high-speed data center connectivity
  • High-performance Ethernet and InfiniBand fabrics
  • Hyperscale or cloud data center fiber architecture
  • High-density rack and row-level connectivity
  • Large-scale fiber installation and patching programs
  • Pre-terminated and modular fiber solutions
  • Offsite fiber preparation, kitting, labeling, and pre-integration
  • Fiber testing, certification, troubleshooting, and remediation
  • Automated cable matrices, BOMs, port mapping, and design documentation
  • Multi-site deployment standards and repeatable data center design methodologies
  • Fiber Architecture – Deep understanding of high-density data center fiber design and physical connectivity.
  • AI Infrastructure Knowledge – Understands how GPU compute, networking, storage, and rack architectures drive physical layer requirements.
  • Design at Scale – Creates repeatable architectures capable of supporting thousands of racks and very large connection counts.
  • Technical Accuracy – Maintains rigorous attention to port mapping, polarity, labeling, testing, documentation, and quality.
  • Customer Engagement – Can lead technical discovery, design workshops, and customer architecture reviews.
  • Design-to-Delivery Thinking – Develops solutions that can be efficiently sourced, pre-built, installed, tested, and operated.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Connects customer requirements with sales, engineering, sourcing, partners, and field delivery.
  • Quality and accuracy of fiber and structured cabling designs
  • Speed from customer requirements to executable solution architecture
  • Design standardization and repeatability across AI Data Center programs
  • Reduction of field changes, rework, and connectivity defects
  • Successful technical support of pipeline and customer pursuits
  • Accuracy of BOMs, cable matrices, port maps, and design documentation
  • Successful transition from solution architecture into deployment
  • Customer satisfaction and technical credibility

The ideal candidate is a hands-on data center fiber architect who understands how to turn complex AI infrastructure and network requirements into highly accurate, scalable physical connectivity solutions. They should be comfortable working from GPU and network architecture down to the rack, port, optic, fiber, connector, pathway, and patching level. This individual should combine strong technical depth with practical deployment experience—someone who can design for scale while understanding how the solution will actually be sourced, staged, installed, tested, documented, and supported in a high-velocity AI Data Center environment.
