Life on the team
The UK in-house legal department is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded team. The role of Senior Legal Counsel is an integral part of the legal team and reports directly to the UK Head of Legal.
The UK Legal team is comprised of qualified lawyers and contract managers that provide “end to end” commercial and legal advice across the entire lifecycle of our customers contracts from bid stage, negotiation, through to in-life management. Additionally, the department undertakes support to the UK business on all legal matters.
The candidate will be expected to work closely with the UK legal senior management team as well as a broad range of internal stakeholders across all functions of the business to provide commercial and pragmatic advice, guidance and counsel on a broad range of legal issues that affect the UK business.
What you'll do
- The role has a particular focus on commercial technology contracts and you will also have a portfolio of Computacenter top podium customers to legally manage
- Providing legal advice on a variety of UK legal matters with a primary emphasis on drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements for customers, partners and suppliers
- Supporting key bids and providing strategic input
- Establishing key working relationships throughout the organisation and with the global Legal & Compliance team
- Leading on commercial IT contract negotiations with a particular emphasis on supporting and growing our existing top FTSE250 customers and public sector clients
- Manage and support on group projects to ensure that the function is fully aligned and integrated into the business
- Litigation and dispute management and instructing external counsel where appropriate
- Coaching and developing other members of the team and ensuring that the advice provided by the department is consistent and aligns to the organisations risk appetite and governance procedures
What you'll need
- A proactive lawyer who enjoys advising on a broad variety of commercial contracts
- Prior experience of managing key stakeholders and communicating pragmatic legal advice across the business
- Experience working on complex outsourcing agreements, preferably for both private sector and public sector customers
- We are particularly interested in candidates that have a thorough understanding of Public Procurement legislation
- Ability to link legal issues in a business and industry context and ensure that legal and compliance issues are taken into consideration and fully complied with
- Excellent written and oral and negotiation skills
- Ability to hit the ground running and enjoy working alongside senior stakeholder
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently and also to be part of a team, leading teams where appropriate
- Prior in-house experience in a fast-paced environment working to tight deadlines
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and a willing, helpful attitude
- A calm professional manner, even during times of rapid change
- UK qualified solicitor with 6-10 years PQE (or equivalent) with significant in-house experience
