SQL Server Consultant

Job Introduction

Computacenter have an opportunity in our rapidly expanding Consultancy Practice data team for an individual with strong SQL Server skills to undertake database architecture, optimisation and migration projects. The team is dynamic and focussed on ensuring projects are delivered to meet requirements and on time. The consultant will assist with pre and post sales consultancy to our customers, acting as a technical resource within a team of consultants. The role can be based from any of our UK offices and will involve regular UK wide travel.

 

As a team member, you will have exposure to senior stakeholders across a variety of functions within the division and to enterprise customers. 
You will help commission environments ensuring it’s suitable for the newer version of SQL Server, whilst also implementing best practices in each of the environments being migrated. You will be hands on and familiar working in an agile environment, delivering projects and growing the team’s technical capabilities. You will contribute to the overall technical direction of the team in combination with your effective leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills. There are significant opportunities to diversify skills across the wider data platform and the leading cloud provider technologies. 


Main Responsibilities
●    Responsible for the delivery and support of robust database migration projects.
●    Gather requirements, design, implement and test enterprise scale database architecture projects to meet CIS standards and ensure High Availability and Disaster Recovery. 
●    Engage in database optimisation to ensure performance and security. 
●    Act as a review gate for all SQL Server deployments, ensuring standards set by the team are met.
●    Provide proactive leadership in technical matters, drawing upon own expert knowledge of SQL Server and associated technologies.
●    Implement and update automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell that would enable the team to carry out repeated tasks efficiently and help to troubleshoot database issues.
●    Collaborate with internal teams to produce and review database design and architecture.
●    Develop documentation of any existing and new processes, as required by the business.
●    Manage and minimise operational risk whilst effectively working to maintain and optimise business results.
●    Ensure compliance with all relevant procedures, guidelines and reporting requirements as well as any relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.

 

The Ideal Candidate
●    Database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to 2019 (including administration, maintenance, performance tuning, security, automation, programming, upgrades, installations and monitoring).
●    Experience in performance troubleshooting in SQL Server and Windows environments.
●    Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience of SQL Server, T-SQL and PowerShell
●    Administering and maintaining security and CIS standards within Windows and SQL Server.
●    Assisting internal and customer teams with SQL Server environmental problems (performance, security, capacity issues etc).
●    Experience with high-availability solutions - Windows Server Failover Clusters, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Transaction Log Shipping, Replication etc.
●    Experience with one or more cloud providers – Azure, AWS and GCP. 
●    Proven ability to work as an individual, with excellent self-management and time management skills.
●    Problem solving capabilities and the ability to multitask and re-prioritise work in a rapidly changing environment.
●    Experience in a dynamic, highly available mission critical production environment.
●    Familiarity in applying agile methods. 
●    High standard of technical documentation and design abilities.
