Monitoring Platform - 2nd Line Application Support




Brief overview of team:

GIS deliver and support the technology that underpins Computacenter’s Group Delivery Managed Infrastructure Services offerings, including Event Management, Capacity & Availability Management Network Management and Asset & Configuration Management.


Brief overview of role:

To provide technical support services for the tooling platform that underpin the Group Delivery business services.  Identify, analyse, document and implement new technical solutions and features to enhance systems in conjunction with Group Delivery and the vendor. 



             •             Support and maintenance of the ScienceLogic Platform including Development, Pre-Production and Production Environments

o             Incident/Changes

o             Proactive changes to ensure system availability

o             Upgrades and releases in line with vendor roadmap, and in conjunction with Group Delivery, Service Improvements

o             Produce well-articulated and succinct run book documentation to support technical operations

            •             Identify, define, document and implement new technical solutions / features to enhance systems.

            •             Manage and perform technical implementation activities to support business take-on and in-life change projects in line with project time-scales and against the agreed process and procedures

            •             Provide support services to the Group Delivery Business and customers with a collaborative approach

            •             Raise system changes for technical activities that need to be performed under the change management process

            •             Considers security & potential legal constraints in work

Knowledge & key skills – Essential:

            •             Proven capability / working knowledge / technical operating and support experience (2 years):

            •             Operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Linux (Red Hat & Oracle)

            •             Enterprise Infrastructure: Storage (SAN/NAS/DAS), Network Switches & Routers, Servers

            •             Virtualisation: VMWare, Hyper-V

            •             TCP/IP networking knowledge

            •             Scripting: PowerShell and/or Python

            •             System Management: SNMP, WMI, RMI

            •             ITIL knowledge

            •             Considers security & potential legal constraints in work

            •             In-depth knowledge of IT Infrastructure technology and its business application

            •             Uses broad range of information systems, technology functions and applications in line with IT industry standards

            •             Demonstrates the ability to absorb and apply technical information

            •             Demonstrates analytical and systematic approach to resolving complex problems and assignments

            •             Demonstrates an organised approach to work

            •             Demonstrates excellent attention to detail

            •             Demonstrates excellent technical documentation authoring skills

            •             Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

            •             Routine administrative skills

            •             Demonstrates effective interpersonal, literacy and numeracy skills

            •             Demonstrates awareness of health and safety at work

            •             Takes initiative in identifying and negotiating appropriate development opportunities


Knowledge & key skills – Desired

             •             Proven capability / working knowledge / technical operating and support experience:

o             Good general IT background (Hardware, Active Directory, Database Technologies (Oracle and Microsoft SQL), Microsoft Exchange, Networking, Firewalls, Virtualisation, Citrix)

            •             Web and Application servers: Apache, Tomcat, Microsoft IIS

            •             DRBD (Distributed Replicated Block Device)

            •             Databases: Maria DB

            •             ScienceLogic SL1
