Monitoring Platform Technical Consultant

Brief overview of team:
GIS deliver and support the technology that underpins Computacenter’s Group Delivery Managed Infrastructure Services offerings, including Event Management, Capacity & Availability Management Network Management and Asset & Configuration Management. 


Brief overview of role:
To provide technical support services for the Infrastructure Tooling system that underpin the Group Delivery business.  Identify, analyse, document and implement new technical solutions and features to enhance systems.  Look for opportunities and implement necessary processes to “shift left” technical activities to the Technical Analyst 2 roles. Configure and build new tooling solutions for our customers. Maintain the platform in line with the Tooling Roadmap produced by the Technical Authority to ensure we are in a supported position, and able to meet our customers needs. 


  • There is a paid, on-call requirement for this role which is expected to be 1 in every 4 weeks.




  •         Produce well-articulated and succinct documentation to support technical requirements and support activities whilst producing reports and risk and issue logs where appropriate
  •         Implement technical standards across systems.
  •         Define, design, document, and implement technical procedures to support the technical operations team. 
  •         Identify, define, document and implement new technical solutions / features to enhance systems. 
  •         Manage and perform technical implementation activities to support business take-on and in-life change projects in line with project time-scales and against the agreed process and procedures
  •         Input into pre-sales activities
  •         Provide training and guidance to the GIS Tooling team and Group Delivery Business 
  •         Raise system changes for technical activities that need to be performed under the change management process
  •         Considers and support security & potential legal constraints in work
  •         Support the Operations function where needed:
  •     Analysis and resolve complex faults across the GIS Tooling function. 
  •     Where faults cannot be resolved, ensure all technical investigation  activities are documented and an incident is logged with the supplier(s) and managed through to completion

Knowledge & key skills – Essential:

  •         Proven capability / working knowledge / technical operating and support experience (5 years):

               o    Operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Linux (Red Hat & Oracle)
               o    Enterprise Infrastructure: Storage (SAN/NAS/DAS), Network Switches & Routers, Servers
               o    Virtualisation: VMWare, Hyper-V
               o    TCP/IP networking knowledge
               o    System Management: SNMP, WMI, RMI
               o    ITIL knowledge with a broad understanding how tooling underpins the ITIL functions in Event Management, Capacity & Availability Management and Asset & Configuration Management

  •         Ability to design in-depth, complex technical solutions
  •         Considers security & potential legal constraints in work
  •         In-depth knowledge of IT Infrastructure technology and its business application
  •         Uses broad range of information systems, technology functions and applications in line with IT industry standards
  •         Demonstrates the ability to absorb and apply technical information
  •         Demonstrates analytical and systematic approach to resolving complex problems and assignments
  •         Demonstrates an organised approach to work

Knowledge & key skills – Desired: 


  •         Proven capability / working knowledge / technical operating and support experience:

               o    Good general IT background (Hardware, Active Directory, Database Technologies (Oracle and Microsoft SQL), Microsoft Exchange, Networking, Firewalls, Virtualisation, Citrix)
               o    Web and Application servers: Apache, Tomcat, Microsoft IIS
    Knowledge of Atrium CMDB, BMC Remedy ITSM and integration capabilities
