Life on the team

 

As a Project Manager 1 (PM1) in GIS IP you will be supporting a Lead Project Manager as well as managing smaller/less complex projects or work-streams within the Portfolio.

Your scope of activity can range from initiation, through delivery and into closure. You will need to understand and work with different commercial models (e.g. Fixed Price, Time and Materials or Resource on Demand). Your responsibilities will also include management and reporting, including the finances of the project, or supporting the Lead Project Manager by carrying out some of these activities.

 

Delivery of a successful project will include some or all of the following: building and/or supporting your team, ensuring the agreed products are delivered, effective communication, managing project controls (including risk, issue, customer dependencies and change) and providing a high-quality professional outcome to the satisfaction of our customers and internal stakeholders.

If leading a small assignment, you’ll be responsible for a services revenue value around £50k to £250K and this value will increase as your experience levels develop.

 

What you’ll do

 

Project Management and Delivery:

  • Capable of initiation of a project, defining the scope, agree requirements, produce the cost model and plans and produce a Project Initiation Document, whilst following the correct governance and approval processes.
  • Create and/or maintain the Project Plan; being fluent in the use of suitable tools like Microsoft Project.
  • Manage the project in line with financial rules and commitments.
  • Manage the project to the define plan and control via change control.
  • Where working on less complex projects, typically managing more than one different project concurrently.
  • Supporting on updates to central project RAID logs.
  • Identifies, assesses, and manages risks and issues to the success of the project.
  • Lead meetings, workshops, and presentations to the stakeholders, developing relationships.
  • Assisting with relationship with internal suppliers and any third-party vendors throughout the delivery stage of a project.
  • Develop, build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally in order to achieve project objectives.
  • Compliance with the GIS processes and procedures lifecycle.

 

 

What you’ll need

 

  • Prince 2 Practitioner qualification or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge and some experience working and delivering with Agile.
  • Proactive work attitude and the ability to manage your own workload.
  • Ideally knowledge of information systems across several different business and technology areas.
  • A demonstrable track record of 2-3 years practical experience of formal project management and delivering successful IT system project outcomes end-to-end.
  • Possesses interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Desirable knowledge of service management and ITIL principles.
  • Highly desirable would be a high-level understanding of the following - Outlook, MS Project, MS Visio, MS Office.
