Hardware & Software Engineer

Your potential Role


Typically, a Customer Engineer will provide basic hardware/software breakfix support, software installations and configuration in an existing desktop infrastructure or pre-designed project and will be familiar with current Microsoft desktop Operating Systems and the Microsoft Desktop applications suite of products. It is expected that any successful candidate will commit to attain Dell\Lenovo\HP Desktop and Server accreditations along with any customer clearance that may be required for the role.



Any successful candidate will require a flexible approach to the role and be able to work well within a team. The skills & experience you need should be strong technical Knowledge of Windows 10, Office 2016 and Office 365, Manual installations, handovers, user end-training, VPN/Wireless knowledge. You will need to be able to work to SLA’s, provision of on-site support for maintenance calls, act as a focal point for all work being undertaken in specific areas. To work as a member of the team to provide the most effective method of service delivery and to cover any IT related tasks when required within the scope of the contract. Knowledge of basic printer maintenance is also a requirement.


Hours 37.5hrs/ week - 08:00-20:00 Monday- Sunday (as part of a shift Rota shared evenly amongst the team: 08:00 – 18:00 weekdays and 08:00 – 20:00 weekends along with 08:00 – 18:00 on Bank Holidays). The weekend rota will be 1 in every 4 weeks, along with on call 1 in every 4 weeks.


Your main duties will include (but are not restricted to):


  • identifying and driving Service Improvement opportunities as an individual and as part of the wider team/unit.
  • maintaining accurate records to understand the estate, track trends and drive full RCA.
  • You will be fully customer centric.
  • acting as a liaison between technical and non-technical customers communicating effectively using a variety of media between different strata within internal and external customer hierarchy.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience (Technical knowledge will be dependent on specific role)


  • Basic hardware/software breakfix experience
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Applications
  • Basic previous experience of supporting Mobile devices and hand-held devices
  • Good administrative experience, attention to detail, ensures accuracy of data, provides data for reporting and processing of information
  • Previous experience working in a corporate IT environment
  • Excellent customer facing and telephony skills
  • Working knowledge of systems tools ITSM, Service Now would be desirable
  • Adaptable and welcoming of change and communicating change to customers
  • Strong communication, influencing and relationship building skills
